Tarpan literary means ‘to nourish’. Akshi Tarpan refers to the procedure which is done to nourish eyes by fatty materials.
Procedure
Patient is adviced to lie down in prone position on the table in a room free from direct sun rays , wind
and dust. Now akshi tarpan instrument is fixed over eyes. With the closed eyes of patient liquefied ghrita is poured and patient is asked to open and close the eyes during the entire procedure. This process is continued for 30-45 minutes.
Indication
Dry eye, Squinting of eyes, Deficient lacrimation, Hard eyelids with falling of eyelashes etc.
