“Naasayam Praniymanam aushadhama nasyam” Nasya is a therapeutic measures where the medicated oil, kwatha, swarasa, churna etc. are administered through nose to eliminate the vitiated doshas situated is sira for the treatment of Urdvagatrugata (Above clavicle) diseases. Nose is considered as the gateway of head. Drug administered through nose reaches the brain and eliminates the toxins (Doshas) responsible for producing disease. Pratimarsha type of nasya can be done on daily basis also. Pratimarsha is beneficial for all and dose consume much time.
Pre Procedure
Patient is adviced to lie down in supine position on table. Abhyanga is done on face, forehead and scalp
for 5 to 10 mins. Mild swedana is given over face.
Main Procedure
Patient is adviced to lie down in supine position with head slightly flexed I,e tilted back. Now close
right nostril and administer the medicine in left nostril with dropper or nasya patra. Now ask the
patient to take deep inhalation. Repeat the procedure with other side.
Post Procedure
After administration of nasya drug patient is adviced to relax for sometime and then swedana is given on
face. Nasya drug should not be swallowed, it should be spitted out. Medicated dhum is given to expel out
remnant kapha dosha.

Nasya is indicated in all Urdhvajatrugata (Above clavicle related) diseases.
