“Raktasya Mokshanam Raktasrava” Raktamokshana is a procedure of letting out impure blood from the body. It is done by using sharp surgical instruments or by parasurgical measures. Rakta plays the main role in spreading the disease from one part to another by carrying doshas. So raktamokshana will be helpful in removing those toxins which will aggravate the disease.
It is done by one of the following methods:
- Pracchana (Scraping)
- Siravyadha (Venesection)
- Jalouka Avcharana (Application of leech)
- Sringa Avacharana (Application of Horn)
- Alabu Avacharana (Application of gourd)
- Syringing
Pre Procedure
Local snehana and swedana is applied over the area to increase the blood circulation. Cotton gauze piece
is then rubbed to remove dead skin. Then area is cleaned by luke warm water.
Main Procedure
Jalouka/syringe/Pracchana which is to be used for blood letting is applied over the affected part. Impure is allowed to flow out. As the impure blood flows out blood will automatically stops.
Post Procedure
Affected part is cleaned with cotton dipped in panchavalkal decoction. Turmeric and yashtimadhu powder is applied on wound. Bandage is applied on the wound
Indication
Raktamokshan is indicated in all raktaj and Pittaja diseases.
