It is a purificatory procedure in which toxins (Doshas) from the body are removed by purgation. It is beneficial in all pitta dosha dominant diseases. In this procedure doshas are removed in less stress.
Pre Procedure
Patient is accessed for digestive power, according to that Dipan and Pachana is given to the patient. After that snehapan (Intake of medicated grhita or taila) is done in increasing dose according to koshtha and agni bala. After snehapan is completed whole body massage (Abhyanga) and steam bath (Swedana) is given to patient.
Main Procedure
Just before the day of vaman patient is asked to take kapha prakopaka diet like curd, urada, til etc. Vamana is done early morning as it is the kapha kala. On the day of vamana abhyanga and swedana is done first after that milk or sugarcane juice or rice water etc. is given for Aakanthapana (to take for full
stomach), after that medicine is given in proper amount. As medicine works emesis will start automatically to eliminate toxins. Vegas are calculated which decides the type of purification.
Post Procedure
After vamana is completed, medicated smoking is done to eliminate remnant kapha dosha. Patient is
advised for samsarjana karma I,e diet is given in a planed manner.
